Dr Francois Abel

Dr Francois Abel is a Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Staff Specialist currently working at John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
He was the previous medical lead for the Paediatric Respiratory Sleep Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), the largest paediatric hospital in the UK. He trained in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Sleep in the Catholic University of Louvain in Brussels, Sydney Children’s Hospital at Westmead and at Great Ormond Street in London He also holds a postgraduate certificate in Paediatric Sleep Sciences from the University of Western Australia. He also contributed to the creation of the British Paediatric Sleep Society which he co-chaired for over 5 years.
Dr Abel has a wealth of experience in complex lung diseases including rare lung diseases, cystic fibrosis, complex asthma, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung diseases and respiratory pathologies as part of multisystemic disorders including neuromuscular disorders, metabolic disorders and spinal disorders including management of complex ventilation.
Dr Abel has presented at multiple national and international meetings and he has multiple publications covering varied topics in paediatric respiratory and sleep medicine from original research to review papers.
His ethos of practice is to deliver professional patient- centered expert care while remaining friendly, approachable and accessible.
